Good News, and GREAT NEWS.

Good news and GREAT NEWS. Our Council returned to the Ultra Sound Initiative after some key personnel changes, Covid, etc. and was able to provide Caring for Women in Oroville with an Ultra Sound machine with the help of very generous donors and backing from the Supreme Council with matching funds. That is the good news. The GREAT NEWS is that the machine has been in use and already has helped to save a newborn life. GOD IS GOOD.

With much sadness today (06/13/24) we said our final farewells to Honorary Life Member Victor Briggs after fighting for several years with cancer. Victor was a member of Council 2603 for about 36 years, and while never a “chair” officer, he was always involved in our events and chaired several large projects usually centered around the school where his wife Joan worked as a teacher and principal.

Victor gave meaning to the term ‘Brother’ and his absence leaves a large hole in our Council which will take a lot of time to heal over.

Rest in Peace Vic and thank you Lord for his witness.

This past February 9th, the Msgr. Paul Degnan Council held it’s annual Sweethearts Dinner where we honor our significant others with a dinner, spouses paid for by the council. At the same event, we present our Family of the Year and Knight of the Year awards. This years recipients are:

Honorary Life Member – Jim Bruggeman
Family of the Year – Tom and Bobbi O’Connell (not pictured)
Knight of the Year – Rodger Edmundson
Pictured below are the recipients who were at the Dinner.

On Sunday, January 21st, our council helped celebrate the blessing of the new chalice and paten at the 10:30 AM Mass. In part for our donation toward the purchase of the liturgical vessels, our Grand Knight, Steve Hutton, flanked by Greg Bates and Rick Beale, presented the articles to Fr. Ramos for blessing and use during the liturgy. Thank you all who sold and bought raffle tickets to raise monies for this new addition to our liturgical celebrations.

Although not hosted by the Knights, we certainly were active participants in this years (2023) Feast Day celebration. From a bi-lingual Mass celebration we gathered for food, games, friendly competition, and a fireworks display donated by the Council. All in all, a good time was had by all of our parish community.

On a side note, the chalice raffle raised over $4,500 net thanks to the efforts of GK Steve Hutton. The winners were: Rick Beale $500, Rain Junior $300, and Chris McCurley $200. Congratulations gentlemen and all who contributed toward a new parish chalice.

“My Lord and my God”St. Thomas Apostle

With saddened hearts, we pay our respects to our brother William Henry R. Ohls-Morris with whom we celebrated the Resurrection Mass on May 19th, 2023 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. William, aka. Big Bill, was our Grand Knight and Knight of the Year for the Columbian Year of 2008-2009 as well as Bill & Shirlee earning the Family of the Year for 2004/05.

We will miss “Big Bill” and we are proud to have called him our brother.

The “Maintenance Guys” were at it again this year with another offering toward the St. Thomas School auction. Normally meeting after Mass or “chores” , Greg Bates, Jim Coffelt, Bruce Marshall, and Andy Anderson convened in Jim’s shop/garage to convert some salvaged redwood boards from the Feather Falls town site (abandoned) into a porch glider and matching table. The old weathered boards, complete with stains and occasional nail and bullet holes yielded fine grained pieces with a rich reddish brown color and absolutely no knots. The project garnered $1,600 toward the school funding to update the restrooms which date back to the original construction in the mid 1950’s. Well done guy’s.
