The Knights of Columbus is a multinational fraternal organization of nearly two million Catholic men founded in 1882 by Fr. Michael J. McGivney. The Oroville Council #2603 was founded on May 2, 1926 through the efforts of then District Deputy and member of the Chico Council #1137, John T. Donahue, who later became the State Deputy (’32-’33).  The original 41 charter members were led by Grand Knight J.P. Logue

The council originally derived its name after the city of its origin “Oroville” which means city of gold in Spanish, but changed its name in the year 2000, to the “Monsignor Paul Degnan Council #2603” in memory of Rev. Fr. Paul Degnan who was our pastor from 1963-’76 and seldom missed a council meeting.

WHO WE ARE:

We are proud Catholic men banded together in unity and fraternity to do works of charity.  We are priests, deacons, Eucharistic ministers, music ministers, lectors, ushers, and at times even alter servers.  We are involved with adult and children faith formation, we’re involved with prayer groups. We are students, young family members and older retirees, businessmen, professionals, tradesmen, and laborers.  We are a lot like you and we share one thing in common; we are proud of our faith and not shy about demonstrating it.

WHO WE SERVE:

The Msgr. Paul Degnan Council 2603 works closely with the St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Oroville, St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Challenge, and the Oroville community. We provide manpower and funds through various projects to support our priests, our parish, our school, and our community.

Through our efforts, we contribute not only charitable funds and the sweat of our brow to our parish community, but also to community civic groups such as Caring for Women, Salvation Army, Sunrise Rotary, and individuals who have experienced loss due to fire or flood.

Although we serve others, whom we really look to serve is our God and His church.

WHERE WE ARE:

As you can guess, we can be found nearly anywhere and everywhere about the parish, but we do have regular meetings and we can be found on the first Wednesday of each month in the Community Center (access off Montgomery St.) at 7:00 P.M. Special meetings such as degree exemplifications, officers meetings, etc. are normally held on the third Wednesday of each month at the same time.
